CAMERON POSES 1 1 {Guest Post} Rise of the Mecha Groom

At Staggered, we’ve made it our mission to assist those all too often overlooked men of the wedding (groom, best man and father of the bride) and we’ve noted, with little surprise, that the steady increase in the average groom’s interest and involvement in his wedding plans has coincided with technological advances that are making wedding planning more accessible and more fun.

People often ask us why many grooms don’t seem interested in their own wedding plans (bachelor party aside) and the main factor is this: traditionally, the groom’s role in the wedding has been a diminished one. Back in days of yore, the father of the bride would be paying for the wedding, so little wonder the focus was on the bride. I mean, how often do you see the father of the groom give a toast? But the times they are a-changin’ and with most couples sharing the financial burden of the wedding these days, one would expect to see the groom’s role expand and it is, slowly, but old ways die hard.

What the wedding industry has noted and addressed is that we boys love our toys and if there’s a gadget, website or app we can use, we’re on board. It started with simple ideas; techy guys using Excel spreadsheets to keep track of budget – now you see budget planners all over the web. You can use online tools to design bespoke wedding bands or piece together your suit. The digital wedding is here.

Gadget culture is now so prevalent, it’s only a matter of time before there’s an app for every aspect of your wedding. You can bet on seeing a shift in the balance of power between bride and groom as technology plays a bigger role. App developers and brides keen to get their grooms more involved should take note. Want the groom to care about the chair covers? Put an augmented reality app on his smartphone that allows him to switch styles with a swipe and suddenly the prospect seems less mind-numbing. Give us some Google glass and we’ll have no trouble recalling your cousin’s name.

We men like having problems to solve when we have the right tools for the job. Next time you catch a groom checking his email when he should be listening to chair cover options, give him a break; it’s not the wedding he’s lost interest in…

Daffodils Centerpiece 649x1024 DIY Summer Wedding Citrus and Daffodil Centerpiece

Daffodils are the perfect flower for a spring or summer wedding. On the inexpensive side, but still oh so pretty using eco-friendly materials. I made this centerpiece in a matter of minutes for less than $10 and it lit up the room. At Wedding Snap, we love the simple color palette of the daffodils of the bright, cheery yellow with the grass green stems – so we made a little twist to this summer wedding citrus and daffodil centerpiece and played on the green with a hint of citrus!

Why not use limes to add a unique twist to your summer centerpiece and give the centerpiece a more summery feel?

Step-by-Step DIY Summer Wedding Citrus and Daffodil Centerpiece:

1) Purchase daffodil stems from your local nursery or gardening store. We actually found 10 daffodil stems for $1.99 each at the local grocery store!

2) Take the vase of your choice – we chose a quart mason jar for about $1 (entire dozen case for $11.99). For taller or larger vases, you may need to place a PVC tube you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes or some sort of material to create a separation between the flowers and citrus.

3) Place lime and lemon halves along the sides until you are near the top of the vase/container. For a quart-sized mason jar we used about 2 limes and 3 lemons to get a colorful look!

4) Fill the vase with water and place your freshly cut daffodils in the center. And voila! Your DIY Summer Wedding Daffodil & Citrus Centerpiece is ready to be shared with all your guests and Pinterest. icon smile DIY Summer Wedding Citrus and Daffodil Centerpiece

To customize your summer centerpiece further, why not use materials like burlap and ribbon? We wrapped twine around the top of the mason jar, taped the ends down, and tied a bow with green ribbon on top of the twine.

We also love the idea of using vintage bottles as your vase. They were all the rage last year, but we think they’re still amazing and so versatile. Check out last week’s post on 7 Ways to Use Mason Jars for Your Wedding if you didn’t catch our ideas on how to incorporate mason jars into your wedding. If you don’t feel one mason jar is enough to stand out on your table, tie multiple mason jars together with a ribbon and make a larger centerpiece.

Daffodils, fruits, & mason jars are perfect items to use to really save a few dollars in your wedding budget, while still having a gorgeous piece to place on your tables. At about $5-8 each, you can make centerpieces for 10+ tables for less than $100!

Play around with colors and shapes and customize your mason jar centerpiece! How would make your DIY Summer Wedding Citrus and Daffodil Centerpiece?

xoxo

ring box Top 5 Eco Friendly Rings

So you want to be updated with all the latest in the wedding scene, but love being eco-conscious? One of this year’s biggest trends and fabulous trends is eco-friendly weddings!

Couples around the world have come up with some of the most amazing “green” ideas for the eco-friendly couple and you can be chic and “green”. We happened to find some of the most gorgeous rings that just so happen to also be eco-friendly and came up with a list of our Top 5 Eco-Friendly Engagement Rings.

We love that they are green chic and still have that glamorous sparkle to them. Get ready to gawk and drool over these 5 Eco-Friendly Engagement Rings because they are amazing (and ethically responsible).

1) Andrea Bonelli

{Photo Credit: Andrea Bonelli}

Andrea Bonelli is a one-woman show and we’re always impressed by her work. She is constantly making gorgeous eco-friendly rings. We are particularly in love with  this ring she created from recycled 14kt White gold and gave it a slightly hammered, high polished, reflective shine after setting a gorgeous,.50ct White Diamond. Why is this ring one of our favorite eco-friendly styles? It is simple, but so chic and green.

2. Turtle Love Co.

This ring by Turtle Love Co. is to say the least, bold & romantic. The Dainty Crown Diamond Ring is hand-made in Brooklyn by Yuko Matsumura. A single princess cut diamond is at the center of the ring of round diamonds for that utterly royal sparkle that gives this ring its name. I’m absolutely in love with this ring because it’s just so pretty and makes a statement without being overbearing on the finger.

3. Brilliant Earth

{Photo Credit: Brilliant Earth}

What’s our favorite thing about Brilliant Earth (besides this vintage Art Deco ring)? You have the ability to make your own custom ring with all conflict-free diamonds & gemstones. They are known for high quality, beautiful styles, and that personalization factor. It’s your big day, why wouldn’t you want to be able to customize your ring?

4. Simply Wood Rings

So these rings may not technically “sparkle”, but they stand out and shine on their own for being so unique and beautiful. This particular style of ring from Simply Wood Rings is made up of Bog Oak (I know you’re thinking, what’s that?). Bog Oak comes from White Oak trees that have been buried in the bogs of Europe and carbon dated 4,500 to 5,000 years old. So what gives these rings their unique two-tone color? The lighter color is wood taken from the center of these White Oak trees and the darker tone is due to the chemicals in the bog (how amazing?!). The combination of these tones symbolizes the “marriage of old & young, maturity & youthfulness, and the masculine & feminine”.

We wouldn’t mind breaking tradition for these oh so lovely rings!

5. Beth Cyr

What began as an experiment with organic textures and diamonds turned into an amazing line of rings such as this one! Beth Cyr’s rings can be found on Etsy and she has over 90 styles of rings inspired by the textures of nature. Like this one, many of her rings reflect the interesting texture of tree bark and she has so elegantly incorporated these features into her pieces of art.

 What’s your favorite eco-friendly ring? Did we miss any must-have rings for the green bride?

xoxo
